The Company EP OPEN Soc. Coop. is applying for a minimum loan of €100,000 (with a maximum of €300,000) for the development of a renewable energy community of about 750 kWp total located in Province of Cosenza at five neighboring municipalities.
The CER is developed on five different condominium plants specifically:
The installations subject to intervention fall, in part, in the cases of free construction, in accordance with the existing legislation on simplification for photovoltaic installations (in particular, Legislative Decree 199/2021 and Decree Law 17/2022, converted with amendments by Law 34/2022).
All plants are found to have connection quotes issued by e-distribuzione, and are at an advanced stage of the authorization process. The technical conditions have been defined and the activities can be started, in compliance with current regulatory provisions and the timelines defined in the quotations themselves.
The estimated manufacturability of the Renewable Energy Community developed by EP OPEN Soc. Coop. is 1,050,000 kWh/year.
This production will be destined for sharing among the members of the ERC, in accordance with the provisions of Legislative Decree 199/2021 and DM December 7, 2023, generating environmental, economic and social benefits.
Part of the production will be provided in direct self-consumption to the ERC members where the plants are built, who will enjoy direct self-consumption energy provided at advantageous prices by the ERC.
A detailed Business Plan and Summary Report of the project is available in the "Documents" section.

The Renewable Energy Community is a set of users who, through a contract, work together for a common goal, that of producing consume and manage energy through one or more local energy plants. This means that multiple users who produce energy from renewable energy plants, such as photovoltaic plants, can sell energy to users in the same area who consume energy.
Energy Communities allow electricity to be produced locally and sold directly without being transported. In this way, a producer, in addition to producing for energy for its own needs, sells this energy to the community. Energy that can be used by a consumer located in the immediate vicinity, generating an economic benefit for both parties thanks to the incentives and tax breaks provided for the C.E.R. (Renewable Energy Communities).
"Decree C. E.R." - published on 23.01.2024 - Ministry of Environment and Energy Security:
https://www.mase.gov.it/comunicati/energia-mase-pubblicato-decreto-cer
"The Decree provides two types of incentives that can be combined: a non-repayable contribution of up to 40 percent of eligible costs, financed by the PNRR and aimed at communities whose plants are built in municipalities under five thousand inhabitants, which will support the development of two gigawatts in total; and an incentive tariff on renewable energy produced and shared for the entire national territory. Through the measure, the development of five total gigawatts of renewable energy production facilities will thus be encouraged. Within thirty days of the Decree's entry into force, operational rules for the recognition of incentives will be approved by the Ministry, after verification by ARERA and on the proposal of the Gestore dei Servizi Energetici (GSE)."

EP OPEN Soc. Coop. is an energy cooperative that promotes an innovative model of renewable energy production and sharing, with the goal of making a sustainable and equitable energy future accessible to all.
It is one of the first operational energy communities in Italy, with particular presence in the territories of Calabria and Basilicata. Founded by a group of companies with long experience in the energy sector, EP OPEN can count on a solid technical and financial base. The promoter group has been listed among Europe's Fastest-Growing Companies by the Financial Times for 2024 and 2025. The cooperative is distinguished by its participatory structure and commitment to the development of photovoltaic systems, smart energy sharing, and the promotion of energy efficiency.
At the same time, it carries out training and awareness-raising activities on sustainability issues and offers members the opportunity to participate directly in energy investments by benefiting from tax incentives, such as those provided by the PNRR.
EP OPEN also develops software and digital systems for monitoring and managing shared energy, with the aim of maximizing self-consumption and economic benefits for members. In summary, EP OPEN represents a concrete example of a territorial energy community capable of generating environmental, economic and social value through the integration of innovation, participation and sustainability.

Energy communities energy communities are a model of organizing and managing energy that involves a community of individuals, businesses, or local governments working together to produce, consume, and share energy in a sustainable way. These communities promote self-generation and self-consumption of renewable energy, reducing dependence on traditional, centralized sources of energy supply through production from renewable energy facilities. Generating facilities are often installed at the community or neighborhood level and may be shared or cooperative owned, involving community members as shareholders or participants.
One of the key aspects of energy communities is the sharing of the energy produced. This means that locally generated energy can be consumed within the community itself or sold to nearby users, creating a decentralized energy exchange model. In this way, energy communities promote energy efficiency, greenhouse gas emission reduction, and the local economy.
Energy communities can also include smart energy management solutions, such as consumption management, real-time monitoring, and storage battery management. These technologies help optimize the use of the energy produced and promote greater energy autonomy at the local level.
Energy communities provide an opportunity to actively engage citizens in the transition to a more sustainable energy system by promoting participation, innovation, and awareness about energy consumption. This type of initiative has several benefits in addition to environmental and social ones, and supporting it is an important step to take toward a more sustainable and inclusive future.
